Some of the homes going up around Hervey Bay belong to owners who aren't there to watch them being built. Some are relocating from Brisbane or interstate, some are working away, and some are building a retirement home they won't move into for a year. They all have the same question: how do you see inside the walls of a house you can't get to before the plasterboard covers them?
Reality capture in Hervey Bay answers it with a frame-stage record you can walk through from anywhere. This guide covers what that record shows, how captures reach the Fraser Coast on our scheduled northern runs, what coastal lots and older homes need, and what to organise from afar so the capture happens on time.
Building on the Fraser Coast from somewhere else
When you can't visit the site, you rely on the builder's progress photos and updates. They're useful, but a photo only shows what the camera was pointed at. The things owners most often want to check (where the ensuite waste is, whether the island power is where the kitchen plan says, which conduits were left for solar) are inside the walls and floor, and they disappear at the plasterboard stage.
A frame-stage capture records the whole house at that point: every wall, rough-in and fixing, measured and photographed, as a hosted 3D walkthrough you open in a browser. You can walk through it from Brisbane, Melbourne or the other side of the world, and share the link with family, your designer or the builder.

Tag 01 · Kitchen
Kitchen and island
- In the frame-stage record
- Water, waste and power positions at the island and the sink, and the cabinet layout they were roughed in for.
- Why it matters from afar
- If the island moves or the cabinetmaker measures differently, you can check the rough-ins against the plan from wherever you are.
Hidden behind plasterboard now. The frame-stage record still shows it.
Tag 02 · Ensuite
Ensuite
- In the frame-stage record
- Shower and vanity waste positions, the set-down for the shower, and the noggins for the vanity and towel rails.
- Why it matters from afar
- Once the tiles go on, the only record of where the waste runs and noggins are is the one taken now.
Hidden behind plasterboard now. The frame-stage record still shows it.
Tag 03 · Laundry
Laundry
- In the frame-stage record
- Taps and waste for the tub and the washing machine, and the power for the dryer.
- Why it matters from afar
- Small things that are easy to get wrong, and expensive to move once the cabinetry is in.
Hidden behind plasterboard now. The frame-stage record still shows it.
Tag 04 · Switchboard
Switchboard and conduits
- In the frame-stage record
- The switchboard, the cable runs leaving it, and spare conduits for solar, a battery or an EV charger.
- Why it matters from afar
- Solar, a battery or an EV charger goes in faster later when you know where the conduits already run.
Hidden behind plasterboard now. The frame-stage record still shows it.
Tag 05 · TV wall
TV and data wall
- In the frame-stage record
- TV, data and power positions on the feature wall, and the bracing behind it.
- Why it matters from afar
- Know where you can and can't drill before you hang a TV or shelves.
Hidden behind plasterboard now. The frame-stage record still shows it.
Tag 06 · Tie-downs
Tie-downs and bracing
- In the frame-stage record
- Tie-down straps, hold-down bolts and bracing along the external walls, before the cladding and plasterboard close over them.
- Why it matters from afar
- Near the coast these are what hold the roof on in a blow, and nobody sees them again after this stage.

How capture reaches Hervey Bay: scheduled northern runs
Every capture is dispatched from our Sunshine Coast base. Hervey Bay, Maryborough and the rest of the Fraser Coast are covered by scheduled northern runs, with captures grouped so each run reaches as many sites as possible.
That makes timing the main thing to plan. The capture has to happen after the rough-ins are finished and before the plasterboard goes on, and the earlier we know those dates, the easier it is to fit your site into a run that lands in that window. If the builder's dates move, tell us as soon as you know.
Coastal Hervey Bay: salt air and exposed lots
Along the Esplanade and the bayside suburbs, salt air and wind are the two things to think about. Tie-downs, straps and connectors hold the roof on in a blow, and fixings near the coast are often specified with heavier corrosion protection. Both are easy to check at frame stage and impossible to see afterwards, so they're worth having in the record. Our guide to planning a site scan from the Sunshine Coast to Hervey Bay covers coastal, hinterland and acreage blocks in more detail.
Maryborough's older homes and the Urangan marina
Not every Fraser Coast job is a new build. Maryborough has many older Queenslanders and heritage-listed buildings, and renovating them starts with a record of what's there. For places on the Queensland Heritage Register, the archival recording requirements apply statewide, and our heritage brief explains how 3D capture feeds the measured drawings those approvals ask for.
On the water, the boatyards and marina at Urangan see refits and repowers. Our marine refit brief covers capturing engine rooms, lazarettes and tanks before parts are made.
Before the run: what to organise from afar
Because you won't be there on the day, the capture depends on a few things being arranged in advance: a site contact, the frame-stage date, access, and a list of anything you particularly want recorded. Tick them off below and the booking button sends them with your request.
The record itself is a hosted 3D walkthrough. A Pre-Plaster Build Audit includes six months of hosting, after which the tour is archived and can be reinstated on request. If you want offline files as well, MatterPak™ is available as an optional paid add-on.

Reality capture in Hervey Bay: FAQs
Q.01Do you come to Hervey Bay and Maryborough?
Yes. Hervey Bay, Maryborough and the Fraser Coast are covered by scheduled northern runs from our Sunshine Coast base.
Q.02I live interstate. Do I need to be on site for the capture?
No. The builder or their site contact lets us in, and the hosted walkthrough is sent to you afterwards, so you can walk through the frame from wherever you are.
Q.03How far ahead should I book?
As soon as you know when the rough-ins will be finished and when the plasterboard is booked. More notice gives more options for fitting your site into a northern run.
Q.04Can I share the walkthrough with my family or designer?
Yes. The hosted walkthrough is a link that opens in a browser, so you can share it with family, your designer or the builder while it's hosted.
Q.05What happens to the record after six months?
With a Pre-Plaster Build Audit, the tour is hosted for six months and then archived. Archived tours can be reinstated on request, and MatterPak™ offline files are an optional paid add-on.
